Returning to work after collecting disability

You're encouraged to re-enter the workforce

If you have a disability or condition that is expected to last for at least a year, you may be entitled to Social Security Disability Insurance benefits. In some cases, your health may improve and you may be able to re-enter the workforce. The Social Security Administration encourages people with disabilities to rejoin the workforce. In fact, there are incentives to go back to work. Your full benefits could continue for up to 12 months after you return to work. If you have to leave your job within the next three years, you can start receiving Social Security Disability benefits immediately. There's no need to re-apply.

If you are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the government has different return-to-work policies, but does encourage disabled people to return to work.
