Digestive system disorders

Digestive system disorders may qualify you for Social Security benefits

If you have a digestive system disorder, you may be entitled to SSDI or SSI benefits. However, you need to provide a record of your medical condition, including results from laboratory tests. You may need to provide the following:

  • Medically-acceptable imaging studies such as X-ray imaging, sonography, computerized axial tomography (CAT scan), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and radionuclide scans
  • Reports of endoscopy, operations and pathology

Digestive system disorder disability claims are difficult to win because of the 12-month requirement. Your disability must be expected to last at least a year or result in death in order to qualify for SSDI or SSI benefits, according to the rules of the Social Security Administration.
