Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is a potentially fatal skin disease caused by a severe allergic reaction to a medication. SJS and another form of SJS known as toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are characterized by intense pain. The disease can result in layers of skin peeling off easily and creating the possibility of infections due to exposed open flesh.
SJS is also known as erythema multiforme and Lyell’s Syndrome. People who use over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen, Advil and Motrin may be at an increased risk of SJS.
If you or a loved one is suffering from SJS as a result of exposure to a dangerous drug, you don’t have to fight the insurance companies and big pharmaceutical companies on your own. Be sure to talk to an experienced SJS lawyer in Tulsa about your legal rights. You may be entitled to compensation for your losses. Call Hansen Dirani immediately for a free consultation: 877-583-0700. A delay may affect your rights.
SJS is linked to the use of any antibiotics, anticonvulsants, sedatives and painkillers, including cox-2 inhibitors like Bextra. SJS lawsuits claim that patients who took certain medications did not receive adequate warnings about the dangerous side effects such as SJS.
Initial SJS/TEN symptoms include cough, headaches, general aches and fever. As the disease progresses, people may notice a rash, which can turn into painful blistering.
Victims of SJS/TEN may need to be treated in burn units and intensive care units.
